What to Expect on a Yoga Retreat

Set in serene environments, yoga retreats are an extended vacation for the mind and body of those looking to perfect their yoga practice. While every yoga retreat center is different, these are a few things you can expect when attending.

Prices typically range between $3000-$5000 dollars (depending on the location). Retreats abroad tend to be a bit more expensive than those in the states; however, the cost of any retreat will include 3 weeks of accommodations, three meals per day and a 200 hour yoga teacher training course taught by an experience registered yoga teacher or E-RYT.

While the accommodations will vary, depending on the location, guests often stay in a cabin, cottage or retreat house of some sort. The space will either be a single or a twin-share. The twin-share is a great idea for friends looking to attend a retreat together. It is also, typically, more cost effective.

Day to Day Activity:
Each retreat will plan the day’s schedule differently, but keep in mind, that most days will be planned for you; as it is more beneficial for your practice. Certain yoga styles such as meditation or flow will be practiced in the morning, allowing the body to open and be prepared for the day. Afternoon and evening classes will focus more on restorative yoga, as your body settles from the day’s activities. While the day’s schedule is planned, most retreats allot for free time for attendees and classes are not mandatory unless you are attending for a workshop or to acquire your 200 hour certification.

A healthy lifestyle goes hand in hand with the yoga practice; therefore, retreats will offer meals that are organic, vegetarian and, most importantly, healthy. Foods that restore energy, help the body perform well and aid the overall health of the participants are typically provided for all three meals of the day.
